"Driving up the avenue to Trebuchon through the wheat and barley fields, watching the farmers cutting the corn, what a lovely sight. Your home is wonderful and peaceful. We have had a truly wonderful time". The larger town of St Savin is just a 5 minute drive and is home to a beautiful cathedral and Abbey and is well know for the lovely old wall murals on many of the houses. There is a good selection of shops including a pharmacy, bakery, hairdressers, post office, hotel and an two excellent supermarkets. On Fridays there is a fascinating local market held in the cathedral square selling a host of local produce including vegetables, meats and fish. There are several restaurants set around the cathedral square and also a Logis de France. The much reputed village of Angles Sur L'Anglin is approximately 7 miles away and is a must for all visitors to the area and is known as one of the floral villages of France, much of the village is of medieval originals including the ancient ruins of the chateaux perched high over the village looking down over the River L'Anglin. Here you will find twisting, winding streets abounding with bountiful flowers intermingled with the odd local antique shop and local craft shops. There are also superb walks along the river banks as well as several restaurants and hotels. We can thoroughly recommend the Lyon D'or. There is also a Pizzeria and a Creperie which is open during the day and evenings with stunning views down the gorge and onto the river below. Montmorillon is just over a 15 minute drive away and as well as offering all the facilites associated with a larger town including a hospital and several excellent supermarkets and attractive River Banks. The old walled town of Poitiers is roughly 35 minutes away and is another must to see, with its old walled town, excellent shopping facilities, airport and major hospitals and …… Don't forget to call into the superb Futuroscope !
